First Drive: 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Since its debut in 2005 as a ’06 version, there has been discussion around the office water cooler about Honda’s entry into the pickup section. The Ridgeline was an outsider if you will, an oddball. Everything about the automobile was unique to the section. It featured a engine, an independent rear suspension, construction, and allwheeldrive system. A 3.5L V6 engine was the only option, as was its fourdoor cab configuration. The Ridgeline was a vehicle winning the coveted Truck of the Year award for 2006 of Motor Trend.
Debate raged on whether or not the Ridgeline was fit to be called a truck despite having a openair bed. After all, up until this point, all pickups were construction, using bed and another cab and drive that is optional–Ridgeline lacked these all. It was likened by many to Chevrolet El Camino, the Subaru BRAT, or Ford Ranchero. The Ridgeline carved out its own niche space that was little on the market and it developed a enthusiast after. Luckily after a twoyear hiatus, the Ridgeline has returned for Honda fans. During its time off, the engineers of Honda retooled every component of the Ridgeline, turning it into a force to be reckoned with.

Our remarks are up in the atmosphere on styling. It leaves us scratching our head while the truck is better looking than the first creation. So while the styling is growing on us, we understand Honda appreciate their desire to appeal more and went this route.
