Why You Should Consider Becoming An Enrolled Agent

If you are currently in school studying to earn your bachelors degree in accounting and are looking for a way to set yourself apart from all of the other graduates, then you may want to consider obtaining your enrolled agent certification.  The great thing about becoming an enrolled agent, is the fact that all you need to do is pass a three part exam.  Unlike the CPA exam, which requires that you have completed your degree and a number of additional accounting hours, the enrolled agent exam does not have any similar prerequisites.  The three main topics that are tested on the enrolled agent exam are, individual taxation, corporate taxation and general administration.

When it comes to preparing for the enrolled agent exam, there are a number of courses offered online as well as most universities and even some community colleges.  The great thing about the enrolled agent exam, is the fact that you can often prepare for the exam and pass the exam on your summer break.  Once you have obtained your enrolled agent certification, you can go to work almost immediately.  Enrolled agents are especially in demand around the busy tax season, to advise clients on federal income tax questions.  That said, since enrolled agents also handle tax related disputes for clients directly with the IRS, there is a demand for enrolled agents throughout the year.
