| Because of their rural setting, agriculture
represents the most important economic activity for the Coordinadora's
communities. Basing its programming heavily on education and training
of local community members, the agriculture program succeeds because
of training, technical assistance, and a shared vision of self-sufficient
communities. The program includes education about crop diversification,
alternative organic fertilizers, and the development of local seed
nurseries to reduce dependence on outside providers. Hundreds of
families have now applied these new techniques to improve their
output, health, and pocketbooks. |
