Hurricane Adrian Hits El Salvador Hurricane Adrian hit El Salvador's Pacific coast Thursday night, May 19. Fortunately, when Hurricane Adrian hit land, it lost force, becoming a tropical storm with less wind force and rain. FSSCA El Salvador representative, Anabella Mejia, reported on Friday morning: "I'm sure that everyone's prayers and God's hand turned the hurricane into just a storm." As of Monday, May 23, the communities where we work reported the following damage:
The danger hasn't passed yet, though. As the Coordinadora's Miguel Rodriguez explained to us, "the ground is saturated with water. If we get much more rainfall, we could experience massive flooding because the ground just can't absorb any more." The danger will be especially strong during the following weeks as the ground dries, but will not pass completely for six months, when the rainy season ends. How can I help? The risk of flooding continues. Your gift will help cover the cost of recovery in La Ermita and disaster prevention projects (like cleaning drainage canals) should further rain raise water levels again. The FSSCA also seeks donors to provide permanent dignified housing to the 75 families in Rio Roldan.
