Kids and Bikes in El Salvador

In response to the earthquakes in January and February 2001, Bikes Not Bombs of Austin, TX, donated 30 bicycles to the communities of the Bajo Lempa.   At first we were concerned that local youths wouldn't have the skills or tools to repair and maintain these second-hand bicycles. They showed us a thing or two. A youth group in San Hilario took the bikers, fixed them up, and made them available to needy kids.   Brad Andrews, a delegate on our 2001 Local Zone of Peace Tour, tells us that bicycles are the favorite mode of transportation in the communities he visited. The kids there just love them!
