The Coordinadora's Leadership

Organization

The Coordinadora is a democratic grassroots social movement. Each of its 86 member communities elects two representatives to its General Assembly, which meets quarterly and makes takes the major decisions.

The General Assembly elects the General Coordinator and Coordinating Commission, which meet regularly and take care of day-to-day decisions for the organization. The Assembly also elects the board of the Mangrove Association (see below).

Legal Status

The Coordinadora established the not-for-profit Mangrove Association (Asociación Mangle) in 1999 to handle funds and serve as the Coordinadora's legal and administrative branch. Its functions including hiring professional staff to carry out the organization's projects.
